A Russian commercial variety introduced to North America via Andrey Baranovski of Minsk, Belarus, the name translates to “Chocolate” from Russian.
The plant is compact and bushy, making it a great choice for containers or smaller growing spaces. This variety seems to do well in damper weather, but high heat will halt production – this variety in particular did great for me when I was living on the west coast. Requires minimal staking, with a nice strong central stem. Fruit is brownish red in colour, with a nice flavour. Fruit is approximately 110g (4 oz) and best for fresh eating.
See the seed bank database entry here.
Indeterminate, regular leaf. 70 days from transplant.
Approximately 25 seeds per packet.
From 2018 harvest, germination tested in 2019.
