This is an heirloom variety which shares its name with a district in Russia. It’s unknown if it was bred there or just named after the region, but it was donated to Plant Gene Resources Canada in 1986, from whom I requested the seeds.
This is a really fun variety, displaying a wide variety of fruit shapes. On average the fruit produced were irregular, oblate, and red, but some fruit did display a more rounded shape as well. Average weights were in the 80 gram range, but some of them weighed in at 125 grams. These are awesome salad and fresh use tomatoes, with a great sweet/tart taste. Fruit was meaty with few seeds.
If you’re looking for something a little different to grow, but still want to keep the fruit red, I would highly recommend this variety!
